Our Philosophy. . .
-
We are an
equipping ministry,
not an entertaining ministry.
This does not mean that we believe you must be boring to be a real
Christian, nor does it mean that fun is not a value in our ministry.
But it does mean, that at the end of the day we will not
determine the success or failure of our ministry based on whether or not
it was fun. We believe that
an equipping ministry best prepares our students to be
adult Christians
– we are after longevity with ripple affects, not short big
splashes. We uphold
Scripture as the authority and give it priority in programs.
-
Our weekly
ministries are a learning time – Student LIFE (formerly known as
Connect) and Amplify
-
Vertical Reality
retreats equip students with tools for spiritual disciplines
-
We want students
to own biblical truth as their own
-
Outreach
– we provide opportunities for students to bring others to events
and programs where they will see and hear about the gospel.
However, our philosophy in the work of evangelism is not that
they just
bring
but they learn how to
be.
We want our young men and women to be the
attractive church
in the world, not merely members of a church seeking to be
attractive to the world.
-
We are building a more comprehensive approach to evangelism –
which seeks to integrate understanding and identifying
worldviews with witnessing.
-
Our events . . . 5th Q, Friend Nite, Connect outings,
SnowDay, Camp
-
Parents
and Family is an important aspect of student ministry.
We understand that the most important influence in a
student’s life is their parents, therefore, we are striving to grow
as a ministry that helps empower and encourage the parents in their
role as the primary disciple-maker of their children.
We must be a catalyst for change in moving the church’s
thinking in the area of faith development of students from
church-based and home-supported to home-based and church-supported.
-
Mindset!
-
We value input
from parents
-
We provide
resources to families
-
Our workers and
student minister is readily available to parents
-
We encourage open communication between teach and parents about the
student’s spiritual welfare.
Teachers embrace opportunities to talk with parents.
-
We have parent
meetings before major events to enlist them and communicate the
purpose and details of the events.
-
We have 7up meetings in August to build relationships with incoming
7th grade families.
-
Parents join us
for SS year kickoff (Sep. 9)
-
We want to
develop other venues. . .
-
We believe
relationships
are a necessity in ministering to students, both in reaching and
discipling them. It is far better to show principles than to tell
them. Therefore, a leader’s
entry and involvement in a student’s life is necessary.
-
Only leaders who
are growing, Christ-followers are sought after
-
Leaders are
trained to focus on students, not on each other.
-
Outside contact
with students is encouraged.
