What is CityUprising?

Vision: To Propel the Church and Prosper the City.

Verse: Jeremiah 33:9 – ‘Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’

Voice: City Uprising is a unique opportunity for people to unite in the world’s great urban centers in order to ‘propel the local church and prosper the city’. Vertical Reality 2010

admin

What is Vertical Reality?

Vertical – situated at the highest point.

Reality – that which has existence apart from any idea any mind may have of it, and which would exist if there were no mind anywhere to entertain a thought of it.

Our Father is situated at the highest point. When Isaiah wrote about his vision of God in Isaiah 6, he said he saw the LORD sitting on a throne ‘high and lifted up’. He is far from us, but through Jesus Christ – God who is ‘high and lifted up’ – has drawn near to us. We want all of us to become aware of the reality of what the gospel has done for us. It has given us access to God – we now have the spiritual capacity to relationally connect to God. It is not what we have done, but it is what God has done through His Son to make this a reality for all who will believe in Him.

Vertical Reality weekend is a retreat we take each spring to help us grow in using the ‘means’ God has given us to develop a real intimate relationship with Him. Each year we will focus on a spiritual habit, in the past we have studied, reading God’s Word, memorizing the Word, church, stewardship, worship, fasting and prayer, we engage in these spiritual habits as a means to get to the end and the end is to know and experience God more fully. That is our goal, our desire – to grow in our love and knowledge of Him so that we may live for Him in a world that desperately needs to know Him!

Who can attend? ALL students (7-12)

Where: Cedarmore Retreat Ctr. Baghdad, KY

Theme: God and His Mission and our part

DiscipleNow 2009 Registrant Confirmation

admin

To: All DiscipleNow Participants and Parents

From: Lisle Drury and DiscipleNow PlanningTeam

Re: Getting ready for DiscipleNow

We are thrilled that you are going to be a part of DiscipleNow. It is going to be a great weekend. You play an important part in getting the most out of the weekend. I would encourage you to begin praying now, asking God to do a needed work in your life. This letter is written to let you and your parents know as much as possible about what you need to do in order to get the most out of the weekend.

Schedule: The weekend begins on Friday, November 20, your student needs to be here at 6:00 PM. Students will have supper in the fellowship hall and you, the parent, will be given a prayer sheet and where your child is staying when you drop your child off so please come into the building. We were able to cut the cost of DNow to $40 per student, so if you have not paid this will be the cost for your child, if you have we will reimburse you on Friday, Nov. 20. DiscipleNow will conclude Sunday after church.

Car Permission Slip: Unless it is an absolute necessity we would rather students not drive to Host Homes. However, if you need to, you must fill out the “car permission slip” attached below. Notice that your parents and I must sign the card. Make sure I sign it before we leave the church on Friday night. When you have completed the card, give it to your host family or leader.

Time Away Card: If you have a calendar conflict already scheduled during DiscipleNow, complete the “time away card” below. It will need to be signed by you, your parents, and me, and taken to the Host Family at the beginning of DiscipleNow. If it is possible, we strongly encourage you to participate in the entire weekend event. The weekend is set up in such a way that everything builds on the prior session, so when you are unable to be at just one session – you are missing a lot.

Guidelines: An important part of the success of the weekend is your behavior. We want this weekend to be a great time for you, but for this great time to happen we need you to cooperate with the guidelines we have for the weekend. So you will know what we expect, we ask that you and your parents read through the guidelines and sign the bottom of the sheet. I must have this sheet on Friday for you to participate in the weekend.

Where You will be Staying: You will find out where you will be staying on Friday, Nov.20. Parents, if you need to know sooner, just call the office.

What to Bring:

  • Bible, pen, and notepad
  • Bedding (sleeping bag, pillow, etc.)
  • Bathroom stuff (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.)
  • Recreation and casual clothes
  • Sunday clothes
  • Snacks

· Bring whatever snacks you would like to share with others at your Host Home.

What to NOT to Bring:

This is discussed in guidelines.

DiscipleNow is going to be a great weekend, so begin praying and preparing for it—NOW! If you have any questions about the weekend, please give me a call.

FAQ DiscipleNow 2009

admin

What is DisicpleNow?

The DiscipleNow concept centers on a small group atmosphere in a home setting for a weekend. Each group will have six to ten youth of the same sex and will be led by an adult leader. Each group goes through a specific Bible Study that introduces some to what it means to be a Christian and encourages others in their growth as a Christian.

Where do students stay?
Students stay in church members homes throughout the county.

Are adults staying in homes?
Yes, the group leader, host family, and usually another adult worker stay in the homes with the students.

Who are the group leaders?
Usually, group leaders are members of our church or personal friends of Lisle. You can call Lisle to find out what adult will be leading your student.

What does the cost cover?
It covers food, materials and t-shirt. Your student will not need any extra money for the weekend.

When will I know where my student will be staying?
We assign host homes with groups the first part of November. We do not make this public info until the Friday night of the event. If you need to know where your student is staying, just call Lisle.

What if my student has a conflict in schedule during the weekend?
That is one of the beauties of this event – it is done in town. So if your student has a conflict and it cannot be changed, in your registration confirmation packet there will be a “time away” card – fill it out and give it to Lisle before the weekend. But, understand, we strongly encourage you to try and work it out to be there the entire time.
