Promoting the Gospel Conference for Pastors

November 17th - 19th we are hosting a Pastors Conference call Promoting the Gospel. This is a unique opportunity for L.B.C. to host and minister to pastors.

John Dickson will be our main speaker. John is Director of the Centre for Public Christianity in Australia. Many of you have read his book, Promoting the Gospel. John will bring a fresh perspective on the issue of promoting the gospel through the local church.

On Sunday, November 16th, John will preach in the morning service and that evening he will be bringing a message for unbelievers. This is an opportunity for you to bring a friend who is not a Christian to come and hear a clear presentation of the gospel. Who can you invite? Begin praying now for those people you know and bring them with you on November 16th. Invitation cards will be available soon.

This is a great opportunity for L.B.C. to promote the gospel to Oldham County. Who will you invite?

Adopt a College Student 2008

The Adopt a Student Ministry was started four years ago as a way to keep in touch with our college students through prayer, cards, and small gifts. Statistics show that the majority of youth will walk away from church and the Lord after they graduate from high school. Our aim with this ministry is to keep students connected with LBC and to stand in the gap for them through prayer.

Please take a moment to ask God if He is calling you to be a part of this ministry, then stop by the adoption table in the foyer to get all the details.

Online Registrations

We have recently become aware that a technical problem was preventing our online registrations from working properly. These included registrations for events, subscriptions for specific content (sermons, men's ministry newsletters, blog postings, etc.), and contact forms (prayer requests, request for information, etc.).

We believe the problem has been resolved; however, there is no way to know how long this problem has existed (we suspect mid December) nor how many registrations we missed due to this problem. We ask that if you have tried to subscribe for content and have not started receiving such content or submitted a request for information or prayer, please re-subscribe or re-submit.

We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this has caused and ask for your patience as we continue to strive to leverage technology "To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the glory of God and the good of all peoples."

Calvinism in Southern Baptist Life

Doctrine is one of those good words in the Christian vocabulary that's gotten a bad deal. The word doctrine simply means "teaching." In one sense, every word that came out of Jesus' mouth and from the Apostles' pens was doctrine.

Doctrine is not a boring subject that is only for the halls of academia. It is for the everyday believer like you and me. There is a current "fuss" in the Southern Baptist Convention about a particular view and its place in Baptist life. The doctrinal view is called Calvinism, named after the 16th century theologian John Calvin.

So that we can stay aware of what is going on in our convention and so we can grow in our doctrinal understanding, Dr. Tom Nettles and I will co-teach a six week series on Calvinism in Southern Baptist Life. This will be a great opportunity to learn to listen intently to God as He speaks to us through His Word and develop good clear Biblical thinking.

The seminar will be held on the following dates in the evenings at 6:30 PM:

Operation Christmas Child

Christmas will be here before you know it. And you can have an opportunity to make a world of difference. Every year our AWANA program participates in Operation Christmas Child, the unique project of Samaritan's Purse that shares God's love with millions of hurting children all over the globe. We invite you and your family to join us as we take an ordinary shoebox filled with toys and other presents and turn it into a great opportunity to tell children about the greatest gift of all - Jesus.

Brochures are available in the foyer and more information is available online. Please read these materials closely. They give instructions on how to pack your shoebox and what to include and not include. DON'T FORGET to enclose a $7 check in the envelope attached to the brochure payable to Samaritan's Purse with a note in the memo line that the gift is for Operation Christmas Child. If you are unable to afford the $7 check or fill an entire shoebox, we still encourage you to participate in bringing in whatever you can and we will supply the rest. PLEASE RETURN YOUR FINISHED SHOEBOX TO THE TABLE OUTSIDE THE CHURCH OFFICE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 14TH.

We are excited to spread the love of Jesus with you. Take this opportunity with your family to make one small shoebox that promises to make a big difference in the life of a little child this Christmas season.

Blessings to you and your family,
Children's Pastor

L.I.F.E. Training Schedule 2007-2008

What is L.I.F.E.? L.I.F.E. is an acronym for Love, Instruction, Fellowship, and Evangelism. These four words essentially form the basis of discipleship and when lived out practically in each of our age specific areas can help us to reach our mission of making disciples. L.I.F.E. is a year long (in four - two hour sessions) training program for Sunday School teachers to learn what it means to embrace L.I.F.E. and live out L.I.F.E together.

This year’s LIFE Training will be a continuation of what we have learned last year. We will continue to have these trainings be a way of growing us all in unity and maturity in Christ as we seek to lead and shepherd those under our care. LIFE Basics, which will come on the heels of these trainings (the following month), seeks to give an opportunity for the rest of the congregation to come and be exposed to our vision of LIFE and how we can practically be disciples of Christ.

The 2007 - 2008 schedule will be in reverse order with church wide LIFE Basics events interspersed throughout the schedule:
  • Evangelism: September 9, 2007 - Register Online Now!
  • LIFE Basics October 7, 2007
  • Fellowship: December 2, 2007
  • LIFE Basics January 13, 2008
  • Instruction March 2, 2008
  • LIFE Basics March 30, 2008
  • Love June 1, 2008
