Promoting the Gospel Conference for Pastors

November 17th - 19th we are hosting a Pastors Conference call Promoting the Gospel. This is a unique opportunity for L.B.C. to host and minister to pastors.

John Dickson will be our main speaker. John is Director of the Centre for Public Christianity in Australia. Many of you have read his book, Promoting the Gospel. John will bring a fresh perspective on the issue of promoting the gospel through the local church.

On Sunday, November 16th, John will preach in the morning service and that evening he will be bringing a message for unbelievers. This is an opportunity for you to bring a friend who is not a Christian to come and hear a clear presentation of the gospel. Who can you invite? Begin praying now for those people you know and bring them with you on November 16th. Invitation cards will be available soon.

This is a great opportunity for L.B.C. to promote the gospel to Oldham County. Who will you invite?

Men's Fall Canoe/Kayak River Trip

We will be doing the Green River/Mammoth Cave National Park on Saturday October 25. This is a 12 mile trip that includes canoeing into a cave and exploring several islands. We are doing this as a one day trip. We will probably meet the outfitter around 9AM, eat lunch on the river, and off the river around 4 pm, which means we will leave the church around 7 AM, back around 6 pm.

Costs:
$25.00 per person if you take a canoe (two guys per canoe)
$44.00 per person if you want a kayak (one guy per kayak)
$20.00 per person if you have your own kayak or canoe and just want a transport.

We will probably grill out for lunch on the river. . and have everyone pitch in $10 or so for food, etc. Let Mark Roberts know if you are in and if you want a canoe or kayak. Just give Mark your money and he'll make the reservations upon payment. Let Mark know if your interested as soon as you can and join us on the river. . .its a long time until our spring trip!

2008 Fall Men’s Whitewater Raft Trip

2008 Fall Men’s Whitewater Raft Trip

Gauley River, WV

September 4-5-6, 2008

We will be staying in heated cabins this year, 8 men to a cabin so there is no need to bring any gear or get there early to set up. Most of us will probably leave after work on Thursday. We will raft on Friday and return again on Saturday, back early afternoon. We will also have an option this year. You can do the “Gauntlet” which is the upper/middle/lower Gauley (VERY intense with several class 5’s), or you can do the middle/lower. Those doing the middle/lower will meet up with those doing the upper at the lunch break halfway down.

Price this year is $162.50 per person. This includes the lodging in cabins Thursday and Friday nights, breakfast/lunch/dinner on Friday, rafting on Friday, and your wet suit rental.

If you are interested, contact the church office. We won’t start taking money until June.

Men's Ministry November 2007 Update

Men,
We strongly believe that the men of the church set the spiritual climate of the church. We also know the many difficulties a man in today’s world has in becoming a spiritual leader. Our aim is to help you do just that, become a spiritual leader. That does not mean you will be ready to preach at church next week, but it does mean you will grow reverently comfortable in the presence of your God and in the learning of His Word. Then you will be able to lead your family in the spiritual paths you have walked yourself.

This Saturday, Nov. 3, we'll be having our monthly men's Breakfast, Bible Study and fellowship from 8-9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Expect an inspiring lesson from one of our staff or elders.

Opportunity to SERVE:
Afterwards from 10am to 2pm, we'll be "setting up shop" in the parking lot. It's the annual Automobile Winterizing Day when senior citizens, single mom's and other needy individuals in our church family can bring their car for a pretty comprehensive inspection with minor repairs. We need guys to both do the work as well as man the checklist, run for parts, etc. Please see Alan Richards after the breakfast Saturday to see how you can help. Be sure to bring your work clothes and a willing spirit.

In His Service,
Tom

Men's Ministry October 2007 Update

Men,

Men’s Ministry aims to help men to be godly agents of influence and encourage them as they strive to be the spiritual leaders in their families. We are currently building a base of active men through regular involvement in a variety of focused activities. Of course we’ll be having out monthly Breakfast and Bible Study this coming Saturday morning at 8 am in the Fellowship Hall. Other events, i.e., Times of Prayer, Bible Study, Service, Special Events, and Small Groups are planned throughout the year with the expectation that relationships will form that will help men to become stronger disciples of Jesus Christ.

If you made improving your Service to Others a priority for 2007, grab a buddy and …

- Consider helping prepare breakfast for this Saturday’s Men’s meeting and delivering food to needy folks in the LaGrange community. Come to the LBC Kitchen this Saturday, September 1st at 6:30 a.m. and see Johnny McRoberts. Then stick around for Breakfast, Bible Study and fellowship from 8-9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall and hear an inspiring lesson from staff or elders.

- We will also be having another “Repair Day” – this time there are 2 projects identified, one gutter repair on a local home and the other repairing the flooring in a mobile home. If you have electrician, plumbing or carpentry skills, we need you. Please see Rick Davidson or Alan Richards after the breakfast and be sure to bring your work clothes and a willing spirit, dressed ready to work.

Journey Into Glory

Dr. Eric Johnson will be teaching a class called "Journey Into Glory" on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM beginning September 19th. The aim of the class is to help understand and make progress in your journey as a Christian from here to glory, offering biblical wisdom in realistic spiritual growth. We all face obstacles along this path and at times we need help. The outcome will be to know how to grow your own soul to a strong and healthy state and how to help others along this sometimes difficult path of earthly life.

We have added a new search feature to our menu system. This allows you to search for specific things across our website and blog. You can even choose to search across the entire internet. Whatever you search for will open in a new window (or tab if you use tabbed browsing).

We have standardized on using Google for this search feature. There may be a few days delay between when something is posted on our site or blog and when Google's search technology finds it. Men's Ministry May 2007 Newsletter

      Men,

Men’s Ministry aims to help men to be godly agents of influence and encourage them as they strive to be the spiritual leaders in their families. We are currently building a base of active men through regular involvement in a variety of focused activities. Times of Prayer, Bible Study, Service, Special Events, and Small Groups are all planned with the expectation that relationships will form that will help men to become stronger disciples of Jesus Christ.

      May Highlights:
      · If you made improving your Bible Study a priority for 2007, please come for Breakfast, Bible Study and fellowship this Saturday (tomorrow!), May 5, from 8-9 am in the Fellowship Hall. Typically we hear inspiring lessons from staff and elders to help us become godlier in our walk. Capitalize on the opportunity to invite a friend and be sure to bring your Bible!

      · Also, the time is nearing for the Men’s Canoe Trip on the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River on May 18-19. See Mark Roberts immediately for more details or sign up on the registration sheet at the Welcome desk in the foyer.

      · There has been a need expressed by some single moms in our church for help with their sons. If God is moving you to begin a “big brother” relationship with young men who need the influence of godly men in their lives, please reply to this email and I will get you in touch with those in need for further discussion.

      · Finally, please note that Promise Keepers is coming to the area again this year – the closest is in Cincinnati on August 17-18. See www.promisekeepers.org for more details. Current registration price is $64. Reply by email if you plan to go and I will facilitate traveling and staying together.

      In His Service,

      Tom

There is an important informational dinner for the Project planned for Thursday, April 17, from 6:30-8:30 pm. Please attend if you are considering participating this year. Please be reminded that our church will not be carrying out the typical LaGrange Missions Project this year.

      2 Corinthians 9:11-12
You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.

Another opportunity to serve is coming up soon on April 5 th. Landscaping and grounds clean-up will take place at the church property starting at 6:30 pm. Bring your gloves, shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows!
